The exhibition consists of two projects: First, the collection of limited artwork created by the eight artists, including Jun Yang (Austria), Heman Chong (Singapore), Lee Kit (Hong Kong), Apichatpong Weerasethaku (Thailand), Chen Chieh-Jen (Taiwan), Yu Cheng-Ta (Taiwan), Pak Sheung Chuen (Hong Kong), Tse Su-Mei (Luxembourg). This project provided the main operational funding for TCAC in 2013.The second project of the exhibition is artist Yu-Cheng Chou’s creative project “Yuasa Battery”: Within the exhibition space of TCAC, illumination becomes dependent on an independent circuit. One has to manually control the alternator for light to be shed on to the room.

www.tcac.tw

About Taipei Contemporary Art Center

www.tcac.tw

Founded in February 2010, Taipei Contemporary Art Center (TCAC) is an independent art space established by Taiwanese artists, curators, scholars and cultural workers. Served as a platform for exhibitions, TCAC offers itself for discussions, interactions and exchanges not just for artistic expressions, but also on socio-political issues, cultural policies and aesthetic viewpoints.

Run as an association, TCAC currently has 69 members, 9 board members and an operating team led by one manager responsible for all operations. At the same time, it also provides opportunities for interns and volunteers to participate themselves in the working of an arts establishment. All members of the association are volunteers as well.

The funding mainly comes from generous donations and obligatory labor within the art circle. From 2009 to 2012, there were three fundraising events in total: “Exhibition of Donated Artworks,” “Trading Futures” and “Artist Edition.” Through the donations and the voluntary service of Corporations, individuals and art workers, TCAC attains the funding and labor necessary to function.
