2014.02.20 – 7pm: Haegue Yang; a presentation at Taipei Contemporary Art Center.

Speaker: Haegue Yang

Host: Jun Yang

Taipei Contemporary Art Center is happy to announce the presentation of Haegue Yang.

Haegue Yang’s abstract language is her method to configure and articulate her interests in history and literature as well as the political realities of sculpture, installation, video and her diverse performative works. Bringing together a variety of working methods, ranging from complex installations with industrially produced items, to hand-made sculptures using quasi-traditional craft such as knitting, paper making, origami and macramé, Yang’s oeuvre has reached a level of rich complexity and unique abstraction. Her practice of challenging the classical perception of visual arts involves ongoing research on figures and engagements with various materials, narrating invisible politics in visual and perceptional ways.

Yang’s solo exhibitions has been held in internationally renowned institutions, including REDCAT in Los Angeles(2008), Walker Art Center in Minneapolis(2009), New Museum in New York(2010), Kunsthaus Bregenz in Austria(2011), Haus der Kunst in Munich(2012). She also participated in dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel, Germany in 2012 and represented Korea at the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009, among other international exhibitions. Her recent solo exhibitions include Family of Equivocations, Aubette 1928 – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Strasbourg, France, 2013; Journal of Bouba/kiki, Glasgow Sculpture Studios, Glasgow, Scotland, 2013; Journal of Echomimetic Motions, Bergen Kunsthall, Norway, 2013; Honesty Printed on Modesty, Singapore Tyler Print Institute, Singapore, 2013; and Anachronistic Layers of Dispersion, Henry Art Gallery, Seattle, USA, 2013. Haegue Yang was born in 1971 in Seoul, South Korea. She currently lives and works in Berlin and Seoul.

Jun Yang is an artist based in Vienna (Austria), Yokohama (Japan) and Taipei (Taiwan).
