The developments of art between the late 19th and 20th century is closely related to the history of art exhibitions; arts disseminate along the promotion of art exhibitions. Subsequently Conceptual Art emerged as the exhibition history was developed. Curators play an indispensable role in the presentation of art exhibitions as well as in museum collection system. Many museum directors of the 1960s and 70s have become the pioneers in contemporary curating and the professional position and identity of the curator has become more and more crucial in exhibition-making today. The triangular relationship between curators, art organizations and artists is more significant than ever. Delineating the coexistence of art and curatorial practice, this talk will address curator and museum director’s approaches in various exhibition scenarios to understand their work and thinking, and also provide a clear perspective to review the development of curatorship in Taiwan, generating a possible local history for curators and exhibitions.
