Urban Nomad Film Fest, held annually in Taiwan since 2002, is now taking submissions for its next festival, beginning in April and May 2016. The fest includes an annual competition is for Taiwanese films and music videos, with total prizes in 2016 of at least NTD 40,000. We also have non-competition sections for international feature films and shorts.
Urban Nomad’s main prize is open to Taiwanese and Taiwan-produced films of any length. A film is eligible for competition if it is made by a Taiwanese director, a person of any nationality living in Taiwan, or is closely related to Taiwan in subject matter. Two years ago, the competition was limited to Taiwanese short films only, but since we receive submissions of several feature-length films every year, we have decided to make narrative features and documentary features eligible for the main prize.
Internet video and video art are short films! We would also like to emphasize that the competition is open to video art, experimental works and Internet-based videos, including those created for YouTube, Vimeo or other platforms. Such works are welcome to join the competition.
We are especially looking for Taiwanese or Taiwan-produced feature films that can be considered as an opening or closing film for our festival. To be considered as an opening or closing film, your film must be a Taiwan premier or Taipei premier.
Now in its third year, Urban Nomad’s Music Video Sessions offers prizes for Taiwanese music videos by independent artists and directors of exceptional music videos. Music videos are considered as short films, and accepted directors will be given full festival privileges.
Music Videos (MVs) can be 1) by Taiwanese bands or artists, 2) by Taiwanese directors, or 3) by directors or musicians of any nationality living in Taiwan. In case there are questions of eligibility, Urban Nomad has the right to decide the eligibility any submitted MV. You must apply online, and please note, the Music Video Form is different from the Film Application Form!
