雙頻道錄像投影
我的作品，實際來說並不太花費時間來製作，而總是在鏡頭前來等待。我經常是帶著攝影機到處跑，然後花很多的時間運用攝影鏡頭來「看」，對我來說，鏡頭下的世界，完全不同於我所看的世界，我其實僅僅想呈現一個鏡頭下的世界，然後對應於現實而產生某種距離——很模糊；也很難去言說。而這樣似是而非的一種觀看，無非是我想透過影像來表達的。
拍攝這兩處地方是基於個人的偶遇和想像，一處是自然的噴（湧）泉；另一處是老舊噴水池的廢墟。而我的影像，畫面往往先於概念；對我來說這兩處地方，有趣的正是關於「泉」的聯想，我無法確切說得清晰，但我在這當下各自不同的情境中，找到相似又截然不同的時間向度。我想呈現的還是一種「眼前所見」的感召，「觀看」的同時，是一種「迴圈」且又不斷「擴張」的過程；我的影像作品無非展現了這樣的雙重面貌，並且更進一步探究「即是再現；亦是創造」的幻覺。然而這樣的幻覺，無非就像「寓言」一般揭示著自然與人類之間的感知話語。
透過現場的自然噴（湧）泉的聲音，企圖召喚兩個並置影像之間的象徵與對立、永恆與歷史、自然與社會等…種種可能。但這些可能是「什麼」已不再那麼重要，有的只是在這些不斷複製再複製的影像當中，找尋一絲片斷的真實情緒。於是當下，影像充斥閉合在我自身之中；其行動如同其他影像一樣，接受運動並且反射運動，然而在這兩者之間，也許只有一個差別，即在一定的範圍內，我似乎能對如何保存它接受的東西做出選擇。於是「寓言」在這樣不斷做出抉擇與拼貼中產生了。（文／林冠名）

The Fable

Technically, my work doesn’t take too much time to create. It is just a matter of waiting behind the camera. I often bring my camera everywhere, and then spend a lot of time using the camera lens to “see.” To me, the world I see through the lens is entirely different from the world I usually see. What I attempt to present is this world through the camera lens, and the distance from reality that is created. It is vague and difficult to describe. Perhaps this specious observation is precisely what I am trying to convey through images.
The two locations in these images were based on individual chance encounters and imagination. One location is a natural fountain; and the other are the architectural ruins of a man-made fountain. In my images, the visual interest often precedes any thematic idea. To me, what was interesting about these two settings is the association in the idea of a fountain. I cannot express this precisely, but in these different scenarios I have found similar and yet different time dimensions. What I want to reveal is the inspiration of “what the eyes see.” Simultaneous to “watching” is a type of “looping” and continuous process of “expansion.” What I display in my images is this duality, and a further exploration of the illusion of “to reappear is to recreate.” But this kind of illusion is not unlike a fable that reveals a perceptive discourse that exists between human beings and nature.
The recorded sound of natural fountains in the exhibition space is an attempt to call forth the contrast and symbolism of these two juxtaposed images: eternity and history, nature and society… There are endless possibilities, but what these possibilities may be is no longer important. What exists instead is the realism of emotion that might be found in these repeatedly copied and reproduced images. In the present moment, the self is enclosed within images of its own being. Like other images, the possible actions are to receive and to reflect. Between these two actions, there might only be one difference which is that, within the specified boundary, I seem to be able to decide on how to preserve what the self has accepted. Hence “Fable” is created in a continuous pastiche of endless choices. (Text by LIN Guan-ming. Translated by Yvonne Kennedy.）
