社團法人中華民國視覺藝術協會是一個全國性的藝術團體,成立於1999年2月6日,創會之初有156位會員,包括:視覺藝術創作者、策展人、藝評人、藝術理論工作者、藝術行政工作者、與藝術教育工作者,自此定調了協會成員的結構。十年來協會成長拓展的過程中,陸續有理念與藝術專業範疇相同的同好及團體相繼加入,甚至還包括:畫廊與藝術經紀公司與畫會團體等。到2010年7月底為止,已有超過600位個人與團體會員。
視盟因為成功整合了視覺藝術界相關的所有專業,加上歷來所展現的活力與代表性,因此協會又被稱為視覺藝術聯盟或簡稱為視盟。視盟歷屆理事長多受聘為台北市公共藝術審議委員,以其專業為藝術家在各個公共藝術案中爭取應有的權益;此外,視盟基於監督的立場與專業發言的角度,經常參與公部門各項與視覺藝術領域相關的諮詢會議或研討會。如:法案條例研議、藝文補助案的審查與各項藝術文化會議等。是故,視盟已成為台灣視覺藝術界的主要發聲者。
視盟的宗旨有四:
- 提供視覺藝術工作者於生活福利、專業資源訊息、法律諮詢等相關服 務事項及保障。
- 開發、整合並監督視覺藝術環境現有資源。
- 建立藝術工作者與政府間的諮詢與溝通管道,並促進雙方良性互動之關係。
- 增進政府、民間企業及一般社會大眾對藝術文化的認知,以改善國內文化長期發展的條件。

Association of the Visual Arts in Taiwan (AVAT) is a national art union founded in Feb 6th, 1999. At the very beginning, 156 members across many fields such as visual arts, exhibition plan, arts criticism, arts theories, arts administration and arts education made the frame of member structure. In seven-year formative process, organizations with same idea and profession joined AVAT constantly, which include gallery, art agency and painting group etc. Until the beginning of June 2010, 625 individuals and organizations have joined AVAT membership, which are four times many than ten years ago.
AVAT is also called Union of the Visual Arts because of its successful integration of all related specialties of visual arts and showing energy and representation. Its directors of all previous years were hired as the public art examine congressman to strive for rights and interests for artists in each public art document with their specialty. AVAT, by its angle of supervision and specialty, also participates governmental consultation conferences or seminars held for visual arts. For example: Bill rule thorough discussion, literary arts subsidy document examination and each artistic culture conference and so on. Accordingly, AVAT has become the main representative for visual arts.
Our Mission:
•1. Provide services and safeguard of welfare, specialized information and legal consultation for visual art workers.
•2. Develop, integrate and supervise existing resources of visual art environment.
•3. Establish consultation and communication channel between art workers and government to promote the relations of bilateral benignity interaction.
•4. Promote knowledge of art culture toward government, enterprise and common people to improve domestic environment for long-range cultural development.
