Aspects of Art in and with Institutions
Presentation and Discussion with Oliver Klimpel and Yasmine Ostendorf

Time:2018.04.24 (Tue.) 7 – 9pm.
Venue: Taipei Contemporary Art Center, No. 11, Lane 49, Baoan Street, Taipei (MRT Daqiaotou Station O12)

Despite from different perspectives, the practices both of Oliver Klimpel and Yasmine Ostendorf touch upon the question of artistic discourses within institutional frames. At this evening they will discuss aspects of their work in this regard.

In his presentation “Learning from Taipei” Oliver Klimpel is going to revisit his research into arts institutions and his 2016 institutional furniture project for TCAC, “Form of Assembly”. He will show how he has developed this conceptual interior approach further in his current wide-ranging work for the Kunsthaus Graz, Austria.

This will be followed by an open discussion and observations by Yasmine Ostendorf about her experiences running the Thijsse-Lab for environmental artistic research and the newly founded Food-Lab, both at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, Netherlands.

Oliver Klimpel works at the intersection of art and design. Born in East-Germany and living in London for more than 15 years, he relocated to Berlin three years ago. Trained originally as a graphic designer he is now working with art institutions on questions of spatial displays and interiors, and alternative forms of publishing. Educational projects form another important part of his practice. From 2008 to 2015 he was professor at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig, Germany.

Yasmine Ostendorf is head of the Thijsse-Lab, a nature-research lab for artist at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, Netherlands. After been raised in Amsterdam and working in London she has undertaken extensive research across Asia about art and sustainability that lead her to set up the Green Lab Art Alliance, a network of 35 international cultural organisations that addresses social and environmental responsibilities.

This event will be conducted in English. Special Thanks to Bamboo Curtain Studio.
